Building Commissioning Certification Board (BCCB)

Eligibility

BCCB certifies individuals.
Eligibility is determined based upon recognized education, training and experience related to the provision of building commissioning services. The BCCB recognizes that the pathway to the CCP credential is diverse, e.g., some professionals have a wealth of experience in engineering subjects; others come to serve as practitioners specializing in performance testing.

Mandatory Experience Requirements

To be considered for CCP candidacy applicants must participate in a minimum of three commissioning projects. The projects may not include one- and two-family residential buildings. Over the scope of services provided on the three projects the applicant must have participated in a minimum of six of the following eight activities:

  1. Develop an Owner’s Project Requirements/Current Facility Requirements (OPR/CFR)
  2. Develop commissioning plan
  3. Review of a design
  4. Perform field verification
  5. Oversee performance testing
  6. Correction of deficiencies
  7. Training
  8. Prepare commissioning report

Education and Experience Matrix:

Licensed Architect or Professional Engineer 3 years’ commissioning experience
Bachelor’s Degree in the building sciences or Military training/service5 years’ commissioning experience
Associate/Technical/Vocational 2-year degree, Non-building related Bachelors of Science Degree, or Equivalent military training/service8 years’ building industry experience with at least 5 of those years spent working in building commissioning
High School Diploma, or GED10 years’ building industry experience with at least 5 of those years spent working in building commissioning

Training

No training required. However, candidates may prepare for the exam by attending the BCA's professional development programs.

Exam

The examination is a closed-book, 2-hour, multiple-choice test containing 120 questions. Some questions are scenario-based. The exam is available via computer at testing centers in most metropolitan areas. The passing score is 70%.

Cost

  • Application and 3 Examination attempts: $750 for BCA members, $950 for nonmembers
  • Exam Reschedule: $150

Renewal

Certification is renewable every 3 years, based on evidence of continued competence, per the CCP Candidate Handbook Recertification Requirements.
